Creating new stock flag designs to try increase stock sales. Regularly updating or refreshing our stock designs allows us to stay visually up-to-date and competitive with other signage providers.
Matariki
It had been several years since our Matariki stock designs were last updated. While the existing range continued to perform well, we identified a growing trend of customers requesting custom Matariki designs.
By introducing a refreshed collection, the goal was not only to drive new sales but also to provide inspiration as a strong visual starting point for their own custom flag designs.
Flagmakers showroom flags
The flags outside our showroom featured outdated branding that no longer reflected the business, so I set out to create a new series that would add visual interest and improve street appeal rather than blend into the building.
Instead of using generic messaging like “Open,” I focused on what flags are actually designed to do, get noticed. This led to a set of short, high-impact phrases: “Get Noticed,” “Be Seen,” and “Stand Out.” Each is simple, bold, and easy to absorb at a glance, particularly for passing traffic.
To maximise visibility, I used vibrant background colours to create strong contrast and draw attention. I also incorporated AI-generated imagery featuring interesting poses, designed to spark curiosity and make people look twice.
Christmas Flags
Following the same approach as the Matariki range, our Christmas stock designs had continued to perform strongly, while also seeing an increase in custom design requests. Drawing on common themes from those enquiries, I developed a new set of present-inspired stock street flags.
The concept was driven by the natural shape of the flag itself - wrapping it with a bow to resemble a Christmas gift. The result is a simple, bold design that’s easy to read at a distance, making it well suited for street-facing signage.
While some councils may limit the use of overtly Christmas-themed flags across the full summer period, a more versatile, Kiwiana-inspired festive range is currently in development.
